Please note that the headline for this article is misleading: While FQXi funds scientific research that may have implications for many fields of thought, joining physics with theology is not part of the FQXi Mission. Inaugural FQXi Request for Proposals - NOW CLOSED

We are delighted to report that the FQXi Inaugural Request for Proposals was a hit - proving that research into Foundational Questions is a fascinating and important goal for a wide variety of people and institutions.

The quality, quantity, and diversity of applications we received is impressive: we received 172 proposals, totaling some $23M, from top physics and cosmology institutions (including Caltech, Harvard, MIT, Princeton and The Institute for Advanced Studies, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Oxford, and Cambridge), as well as a diverse group of other universities, laboratories, and think tanks in 19 different countries on five continents. Research proposals arrived from well-known and established physicists, graduate students, and independent thinkers, as well as outreach proposals from educators and businesspeople.

We at FQXi thank everyone who applied for helping to make our first RFP such a smashing success. We are confident that the review panelists will enjoy reading your proposals.
